Tragedies arrive in our life in different ways. But when a parent loses a child to a mass shooting, the pain the community feels is compounded by news of yet another mass shooting. Along with the underlying feeling of overwhelming sadness, periodic despair, compulsive frame-by-frame replays of our every interaction with the lost child, we also constantly wonder if this tragedy was preventable in the first place.

Our educators must follow the District Threat Assessment Protocols. Our children must attend Active Shooting Drills. Our parents must constantly live with anxiety. Where are we headed to as a country??
