A Commitment To Personal Excellence:

Goal setting is a deeply personal act where you realize you’re competing with a yesterday’s version of yourself to become better today. The resolve to live a life of purpose, growth and learning is commitment. The ability to tame one’s distractions, make constructive choices for the common good and responsible social behavior are stepping stones to success.

Be it a vision board, or a dream, keep your eye on your final win. And when you map your mind on it, it’s a reminder to never give up on your goals and aspirations even during these unreasonably difficult times.

Goal setting for children and teens can be a great tool of personal excellence and growth. We can help our children realize and sustain their goals by bringing self-awareness, education and action into their thoughts. It can turn them into contributing citizens thereby helping them lead happy, independent and successful lives.

Setting Goals in Class Or In Life:

There’re many aspects to setting and sustaining goals. Whether in class or in life, when we know and understand why we do what we do, we stay on course of finishing the tasks we set out to. When we find ourselves or others on sustaining the goals we’ve set out for ourselves, here are a few things we can do.

Set an intention and a goal. If it’s a long term goal, break it down into bite sized small tasks. When predicting how much time it will take you to accomplish your goal, be conservative and give yourself longer time than what you think you need. Most people fail to achieve their goals because they assume it’s going to take them a short time and end up getting frustrated when they don’t meet that expectation.

Learn how to be courageous about your ideas and aspirations. Challenging yourself to outperform your past achievements can be a great momentum. Create an environment that helps you thrive. And now get to work!

Teaching Children Goal Setting:

In addition to becoming a great human being, encourage children to master their sleep and attention to become a leader in the area of their passion and interest. By seeing value in themselves and others and learning how to work well under pressure, they can become masters of their craft.

Children can be intentionally taught employability skills like establishing and tackling hard decisions, goal setting and task accomplishment through perseverance.

We all have a choice to sleepwalk through life or to take an active role in it. Negotiating, compromising and still standing up for what they believe in even if it’s not the popular thing to do are hallmarks of an entrepreneur. We all have a choice to become one.

Foster Problem Solving:

The world will always keep changing and we will always have problems. That’s the only constant in our lives. Let’s teach our children how to design solutions to problems. We must teach them how to face obstacles and find the self-motivation to keep going.

We must expose them to adversity and not hide them from it. How long can we keep safeguarding them from real life anyway? Life is not perfect all the time and the sooner they know it, the better they’re ready for it.

When faced with problems, giving them a perspective of the abundance they still have left is imperative. While arriving at a solution, the depth of their engagement and the journey are also part of the final solution.

Commitment Is A Choice:

In class, when we talk about goals, our children keep talking endlessly on what they want to do when they grow up. They love setting goals, and thoroughly understand what short term and long term goals look like. And one time, one 2nd grader even told us about a long term goal he has – that he wants to get married when he grows up.

If you want to set your children on a path to performing at their highest level, instead of sleep walking through life, you need to remind them that commitment is a choice. It also happens to be one of our 6 C’s at FutureSTRONG Academy. Here’s what we equip our children with:

~ Cultivate Personal Accountability
~ Learn the Effects of Technology on Productivity
~ Think Critically and Make Responsible Decisions
~ Self Discipline and Delay Gratification
~ Inculcate Self Engagement and Self-Motivation
~ Develop High Standards of Personal Excellence
